uGH. So we (mostly Mark) spent so much time trying to figure out how to make our Windows phone talk to our iPad and make nice with each other. It will not happen the easy way. Some of it will happen the complicated way (posting pictures we take with your phone) and some of it will not happen at all (posting videos). Well, it may happen on occasion because Mark is way smarter and patient and tenacious then I am about these things. I have little stamina for it all.
So - there is a seismological rift between our technology and our theology. Technology promises that we can make the recording of a thing more amazing than the thing itself. It could all be so much better if I could just filter or fade or focus. We have lost joy and excitement and experience because we got lost in how to record it or reshape it. And here is what we decided about all of that: we will not let machines and the stunning things they should be able to do prevent us from living the moments God places right in our laps. We will not drop any more hours down the trench into oblivion! We will look up and see and experience first. If that means we can't show you a color video with multiple fades and music in the background...well, sorry. I might just have to tell you about it....
Like this movie I can "download" for you. Today I spent 6 hours at the CAMA Hospitality tent at the Little Italy Festival in Clinton. We give out free cold water and provide a shady spot with tables and chairs for a wee rest from the heat (+100 degree heat index today). An adorable little girl came along about 4 pm; 2 feet tall, bright green sun dress, cheeks big and red from the heat. Wispy baby hair around her face formed soft curls from the sweat of her brow. I handed her momma a bottle of water and watched as the first cold drops wet her lips. A smile slid across her face.... and then she pointed, with that most powerful tool ever - the toddler finger, for her daddy to pour water on her head. She shuttered with delight at the drops running down her forehead. Then she pointed to her daddy's head. And with no hesitation, he poured water on his own head. Giggles all around!
I dare you to tell me what is sweeter than a child left free to discover and parents who go on the journey too. No cameras, just pure love.
"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. Luke 15:20
